RASCALS FINISH OFF SWEEP OF PAINTS

Chillicothe, OH – Momentum continues to build for the River City Rascals away from T.R. Hughes Ballpark.

Coming off their first road series win of the season in Evansville, Indiana, the Rascals finished off a three game sweep of the Chillicothe Paints with a 6-4 victory Friday night.

The win for River City marks their fifth straight and improves their record to 5-1 on the current nine game road trip.

Chris Clem (5-5) started for River City still winless on the road. A combined 0-9 in two seasons with the Rascals, he finally clinched a win as the right-hander went 7.1 innings of three hit ball. His one bad mistake, serving up a two-run home run to Travis Garcia in the Paints fourth inning.

Clem was backed from the get-go. The Rascals scored all six of their runs in the first four innings. Jeff Miller drove in Luke Barganier in the first after Barganier tripled to start the ballgame.

In the second inning, Phil Laurent teed off for the second time in the series with a leadoff home run, making it 2-0 River City. Ryan Wehrle would jump into the mix with an RBI double in the third inning. The Rascals would score their final three runs, all with two outs, in the fourth inning to chase Ryan Flanigan from the game.

Brad Hough was hit-by-a-pitch and stole two bases. Miller would be walked in the inning. Wehrle drove in Hough with a single and after a walk to Dan Maycock, Laurent drove in two more with a single up the middle.

The Paints made it interesting in the eighth. With one out, Clem walked Jeff Vincent. That would be Clem’s last pitch as the left-hander Brian Logan was brought in to face lefty Adrian Cantu. Logan walked Cantu on five pitches before Jonathan Miller had to come in and clean everything up.

Miller would sit down all five batters he faced, including two strikeouts to notch his third save, his second straight having to go more than an inning. Flanigan dropped to 1-6 in the start, allowing six earned in 4.2 innings.

The Rascals (31-35) finish the road trip with a three game stint in Florence, Kentucky to take on the Florence Freedom. First pitch on Saturday night from Champion Window Field is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. EST.
