SIXTH CARRIES RASCALS PAST FREEDOM

Florence, KY – Six in the sixth, that was the trick for the River City Rascals as they evened up a three game series against the Florence Freedom with a 8-5 win Sunday night at Champion Window Field.

Trailing 3-0 in the top of the sixth inning against former Rascal Gary Lee who was making his Freedom debut, the first six reach and all six scored as River City went on top for good 6-3.

Luke Barganier got the inning going for the Rascals with a single through the middle. Brad Hough then singled before Jeff Miller drove in one with a double. That was it for Lee as the Rascals tallied their final five runs off the Freedom bullpen.

Chris Eberhardt walked the first two he faced in the sixth, the second one to Dan Maycock drove in a run. Phil Laurent singled off newly entered Chris Ingoglia for an RBI. Andrew Sweet and Will Basom grounded out for RBIs.

Toro Trevino started for River City and allowed three runs in the first two innings before settling in for the middle innings. He came out to warm up before the seventh and felt a knot in his throwing shoulder and had to be taken out.

“On the bunt to third where I turned and threw to first, I felt it tighten up,” Trevino said. “I tried to pitch through it and I couldn’t. It should be fine.”

Adam White was brought in to replace Trevino and allowed a two out, two run home run to Kelly Hunt to bring the Freedom to 6-5.

That is as close as they would get as Laurent would add a solo home run in the eighth and Hough scored on a wild pitch in the ninth.

Jonathan Miller worked 1.2 innings of perfect baseball to earn his fourth save, the third straight where the right-hander had to work more than one inning. Trevino (2-0) got the win going 6.0 innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits. Eberhardt (0-2) suffered the loss for Florence after not retiring a batter and walking two.

The Rascals (32-36) improved to 6-2 on the nine game road trip and go for their third straight series win Monday night at 6:05 p.m. EST.
