| RASCALS END ROAD TRIP WITH WIN
Florence, KY – The River City Rascals put an exclamation point on their nine game road trip by winning their seventh Monday night, 8-4 over the Florence Freedom. Entering the road trip nine games under .500, the Rascals made a few additions to their roster and saw a big difference in their outcomes. Danny Powers (5-5) went for River City and allowed just four hits to the best hitting team in the league to pick up his fifth win. Powers left the game in the eighth in some trouble before one of the new additions made his impact. Ryan Ashner. Released by the team in spring training, Ashner got out of a second and third, nobody out jam left by Powers by just allowing one of the runners to score on a weak ground ball. In the inning Ashner fanned all-star Angel Molina for the first out. The Rascals build the lead for Powers in the third. With the help of the first of three Freedom errors, the Rascals scored two off of starter Everett Saul. With two on and nobody out, Greg Stone laid down a bunt that was thrown away down the left field line to score the Rascals first run. One batter later, Luke Barganier made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly. River City added two runs the next inning on an error in center and an RBI groundout by Will Basom. Jeff Miller drove in a run with a fly ball in the fifth, Phil Laurent and pinch hitter Chris Raniere drove in runs in the seventh with two outs, and Brad Hough scored on the Freedom’s third error of the game in the eighth. Saul (6-3) was saddled with the loss after going six innings allowing 11 hits and five runs, four earned. The Rascals (33-36) now return home for a six game homestand beginning Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Chillicothe Paints, the team right before the Freedom which the Rascals swept.
