| RASCALS FALL SHORT BY ONE, LOSE TO CHILLICOTHE
O’Fallon, MO—Coming off a 7-2 nine game road trip the River City Rascals returned home and fell short to a team they just swept four days ago, the Chillicothe Paints, 4-3 Tuesday night Jake Laber who had shut down the Paints in his last start in seven innings made the start. Both teams stayed even until the third inning when Drew Saylor hit his third home run of the season to put the Paints up 1-0. Chillicothe added another run in the fourth when Jeff Vincent hit a solo homerun and pushed the lead to 2-0. Luke Barganier and the Rascals came to the aid of Laber in the fourth. Barganier scored on a double play ball to cut the lead in half. Dan Maycock then kept the inning alive with an RBI double down the right field line to tie the score at two against Stephen Spragg who was making his first start of the season after 25 bullpen appearances. Chillicothe took the lead back by adding a run in the seventh, but it was short lived. River City added a run of their own in the bottom of the inning as Chris Raniere drove in his second RBI in a pinch hitting role in as many nights to knot the game up at three. The deciding run came in the top of the ninth inning when Dustin Corbett entered for the Rascals. The right-hander walked two in the appearance and after a Joe Spiers stolen base at third, Adrian Cantu bounced in the winning run on a failed attempted double play combination. Edwin Walker picked up his third save of the season with a scoreless bottom of the ninth. Corbett dropped to 0-1 going 0.1 innings. Joe Brown picked up the win for Chillicothe lasting 1.2 innings of shutout baseball with two strikeouts.
