| RASCALS STAY HOT, TAKE SERIES OVER FREEDOM
O’Fallon, MO – Winning is starting to become contagious for the River City Rascals. Since their nine game road trip which began on July 27, the Rascals improved to 11-4 after defeating the Florence Freedom 8-7 Sunday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. “This sure beats losing,” Rascals Manager Toby Rumfield said. “You have to give credit to everybody. This was a team win tonight and everybody is contributing. We’re having a lot of fun right now.” For the second straight night the Rascals hit three home runs in the same inning. After a five run third, Luke Barganier led off the fourth with his fourth home run of the season. Two batters later Jeff Miller hit his fourteenth which was immediately followed by Jimmy Baker’s second home run to make it an 8-5 Rascals lead. Both starters did not make it out of the third inning. Jake Laber started for River City and was taken out with two gone in the third after allowing four runs on three hits and three walks. Brent Lotito was pulled by Jamie Keefe after only 2.1 innings. Lotito allowed five runs on five hits and two walks. Ryan Ashner got the final out for River City in the third before being replaced by Pat Evers in the fourth inning. For Evers, it was his first professional appearance since 2006 when he was a Rascal. The right hander from St. Louis went 2.2 innings, allowing two runs and one earned for the win. Chris Ingoglia was saddled with the loss for the Freedom. Florence came back and tied the Rascals in the fourth inning at five and Ingoglia served up the three home run balls in the bottom half of the inning drop to 5-7 on the season. Jonathan Miller was able to cut right through the heart of the Freedom order in the top of the ninth for his sixth save in six chances. Miller struck out all-stars Angel Molina and Kelly Hunt to start the inning. After the day off on Monday, the Rascals (37-38) travel for three games up to Crestwood, Illinois to take on the Windy City Thunderbolts. Catch the Rascals on the road by tuning into FM 104.5 KSLQ.
