TWO OUT RALLIES PLAGUE RIVER CITY

Crestwood, IL – Scoring runs with two outs, that was the recipe the Windy City Thunderbolts used for success Wednesday, as they scored six times with two gone, to down the Rascals 9-5 at Standard Bank Stadium.

Trailing for most of the game, the Thunderbolts took their first lead in the sixth inning and did not let go. With one out and runners at first and second in the inning, Scott Fogelson was lifted for right hander Pat Evers. After a ground ball moved the runners up to second and third for the second out, Scott Billak would hit his second of three hits to drive in what proved to be the game winning runs.

The Rascals took an early lead off Ted Ratliff with an RBI single by Jeff Miller to score Brad Hough in the first inning.

Windy City tied it in the second with a leadoff home run by shortstop Wes Long.

Andrew Sweet gave the lead back to the Rascals in the fourth inning with a double with two on to score both. Sweet would later score on a suicide squeeze bunt by Greg Stone to put the Rascals on top 4-1.

But the lead did not last a half inning, as in the bottom of the fourth, Fogelson gave up a two out, three-run home run to Danny Sawyer for his second in as many nights to tie it up at fours.

Ryan Wehrle would give the Rascals back the lead and plate their final run in the sixth with an RBI single. Billak then responded with the single in the bottom half of the inning.

Billak would again respond in the seventh after and error and a walk with the bases loaded made it 7-5 Windy City. The right fielder singled in a pair more, finishing with four RBI, making it 9-5.

River City had a chance to rally late, but struck out twice with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning against Matt Petty.

Jason Lowey (3-1) entered the game for the Thunderbolts in the fifth and lasted long enough to pick up the win. Fogelson (4-8) took the loss going 5 1/3 innings, allowing six earned runs on seven hits. Evers went 1 1/3 innings, allowing three unearned runs. Adam White pitched a flawless eighth for the Rascals with a strikeout.

The Rascals (37-40) have now lost their first series in their past six and will try to avoid the sweep Thursday night against Windy City. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.

The box score will be available soon.
