| RASCALS HELD TO TWO HITS AS KINGS GET EVEN
Kalamazoo, MI – Bernard Robert only had one hiccup, a solo home run by Chris Raniere in the third inning, as the right hander was brilliant on his way to a complete game win 7-1 over the River City Rascals Saturday night. The win for the Kalamazoo Kings snapped a brief two game losing streak and pulled the season series to 3-2 in favor of the Rascals. Danny Powers started for the Rascals and fanned seven through four innings. The Kings though would rally against the right hander in the fifth, and Powers would not survive the inning. Joe Ramos led off the inning getting hit by the Powers 2-2 offering. A Joe Frazee single and Randy Moley walk would follow to load the bases. Powers then walked in a run as he put Simon Williams on base for the first King run. Brenden Murphy, Matt Hudgins and Destin Makonnen all drove in runs in the inning for Kalamazoo. Makonnen’s RBIs came off a double when Jonathan Miller replaced Powers with one out. With a 5-1 lead, the Kings added to it in the sixth when Williams singled in Frazee who reached on a walk and stole second. Adam White gave up a one out home run in the seventh to Kyle Kmiecik, who came in for Makonnen defensively in the sixth to make it 7-1. Powers (7-6) lost for the first time since July 19 when he fell on the road to Rockford. He finished going 4 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on three hits and five walks. Robert (3-2) allowed only two hits in his complete game win. Luke Barganier singled after the Raniere home run for the Rascals only other hit. The Kings’ right hander walked five and struck out five. Kalamazoo’s magic number to clinch the Frontier League East is now at two after their win and Traverse City loss. The Rascals (41-45) finish their season series against the Kings on Sunday with an afternoon game, starting at 4:05 p.m. EDT.
