| ERRORS PLAGUE RASCALS IN LOSS
Kalamazoo, MI – Five errors by the River City Rascals and seven runs scored with two outs by the Kalamazoo Kings was enough as the Kings took two of three winning 10-6 Sunday afternoon. The Rascals found themselves playing catch up from the get-go as starter Scott Fogelson walked Brandon Anderson on four pitches in the bottom of the first. That would be the only batter Fogelson would face as he left the game with an injury. Three runs, only one earned, would follow as the Rascals committed two errors behind Ryan Ashner. Leading 3-0, the Kings put it away with five runs, three unearned in the bottom of the second. After two had already scored, Brenden Murphy squirted one throw the legs of shortstop Brad Hough with two outs. Mike Russell was the next batter and with two on, connected for his nineteenth home run of the season to put the Kings up 8-0. Chris Raniere added his third home run of the season in the fourth inning leading off. Greg Stone, who did not start the game, entered to drive in a run with a fielder’s choice. With two outs, Luke Barganier singled in a run to cut the lead to 8-3. Tim Stringer had a bounce back appearance in the middle innings, tossing 2.2 innings of shutout baseball. Jonathan Miller came in for Stringer with the bases loaded in the fifth with two outs and got the Rascals out of the inning. But Miller would surrender two more Kings runs in the sixth off a bases loaded, two out, Jorge Araiza single to make it 10-3. River City’s last gasp came in the ninth as Phil Laurent tripled to begin the inning off Dan Baerlocher. Stone then singled him in. Hough and Baker would follow with RBI singles apiece. With one on and two outs, pinch hitter Jeff Miller struck out looking to end the game. Fogelson dropped to 4-10 with the tough luck loss. Trent Lare improved to 8-3 as the left hander went seven innings of three run ball. River City finished their six game road trip 2-4. River City (41-46) returns home for their final home series of the season beginning Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Gateway Grizzlies. The Rascals swept the Grizzlies at home way back in May.
