O'FALLON, Mo. -- The River City Rascals walked away from the annual Frontier League Meetings with new hardware, earning the Commissioner's Award of Excellence in the 2018 season.
The Rascals earned the award for their success with the 2018 Home Run Derby, presented by St. Charles Automotive. The sold out event featured St. Louis Cardinals alumni Rick Ankiel, Kerry Robinson, Mark Whitten and Ray Lankford in a home run hitting competition against the top Frontier League sluggers. Former Cardinals Center Fielder Jim Edmonds was on hand for the event as well.
"It is a temendous honor to receive this recognition for our efforts in hosting the Home Run Derby," Rascals General Manager David Schmoll said. "It is a testament to our staff's hard work to bring this one-of-a-kind event to O'Fallon and we thank the league for their recognition and the community for their backing of this event."
On the field, Gateway Grizzlies' Trae Santos won the 2018 event in a final round showdown against Ankiel.
