SCHAUMBURG, Ill. -- One night after clinching a playoff berth, the River City Rascals defeated the Schaumburg Boomers 2-1 on Saturday to even their series at a game apiece. The Boomers left 14 men on base in the loss, including the bases loaded twice.
The Rascals took a 2-0 lead in the fifth, on an RBI single from Andrew Penner and a sacrifice fly from Nolan Meadows. After a number of missed opportunities, the Boomers finally got on the board with a two-out RBI single from Connor Oliver in the bottom of the ninth. With the potential tying and winning runners on base, Andrew Vernon struck out Clint Hardy to seal the win and earn his second save of the season.
The Rascals (54-41) and Boomers (46-49) close out the regular season with tomorrow afternoon's rubbermatch, with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m. CDT from Boomers Stadium.
